Siege of Avalon Demo
Defend the realm from evil and become a powerful warrior in this classic role-playing game. #Role-playing game #Interactive novel #Isometric RPG #Siege #Avalon #RPG
Back in the day, isometric RPGs seemed to be indistinguishable from each other, given the common fantasy theme and the rather similar approach to the story. The gameplay differed from title to title, on the other hand, depending how much combat-oriented the game was and how much of an influence the story had on the overall atmosphere.
Siege of Avalon likes to recommend itself as more of an interactive book, although it features plenty of combat sequences as well. It may not be based on any popular rule systems when it comes to gameplay mechanics, but you can still choose from a variety of skills and abilities to make use of. Hence, as far as RPGs go, Siege of Avalon is pretty classic, even if it tries to come across as something else.
Story-wise, the events take place in a realm called Eurale, which split into seven kingdoms. Although these nations are at peace and they consult with each other on a regular basis, a new faction enters the picture, one that is pretty much anti-establishment. They decide to eliminate the seven kingdoms and reduce the realm to wilderness, which is obviously where you enter the picture, as the one who saves the day.
Creating a character is not very difficult, nor does it require too much thinking time. There are some basic skills and attributes you can set up, including strength, constitution, and agility, although they do not really interfere with your ability to choose a class later on. In fact, even if you decide to go with a fighter setup in the beginning, you can still learn spells and become quite the successful sorcerer nonetheless.
As far as graphics go, the isometric engine is about as classic as it can get, but it must be mentioned that a lot of work went into the environments. There’s a lot of detail in every room and piece of land you get to visit, even if you might have trouble seeing some of it, due to the rather annoying brightness levels. The same is true for the music, which is soothing, yet it remains neutral in the background.
While Siege of Avalon may not be as complex as other titles, nor feature the most advanced gameplay mechanics, it is still an adventure worth experiencing. Hence, if you consider yourself a lover of the RPG genre, then this game may very well be part of your collection.
