Shank is the game that put the Klei Entertainment studio on the map. It’s an insane 2D platformer that redefined action games, and that set a new standard. We have game in this genre for many years, and many of them are legendary. It’s difficult to break through with a new side-scrolling action game, but Klei Entertainment managed to make it happen.

The proper denomination for this game is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up, but Shank is head and shoulder above pretty much anything that’s been released under this genre. The combination of beautiful artwork, perfect animations, and storyline, makes Shank an almost perfect game. Anyone playing the demo will instantly fall in love with this character.

With so many 2D games out there, we’re bound to find a few jewels. Shank is one of them. It started its life as a console game, but it was ported to the PC where it found a really dedicated community.

The player follows the story of Shank, a guy bent on revenge after he was left to die by unknown attackers. He’s journey will take this through different levels, facing more and more difficult enemies and honing his skills.

The character wields a couple of knifes, a chainsaw, and a couple of guns. They can be used in a number of combinations, but more weapons become available as the game progresses. It’s also possible to ponds on enemies or to grab them for even more devastating attacks.

The main attraction is not the B-movie violence, but the animations. In combination with the really interesting and hand-drawn graphics, the character moves incredibly fluid. All his actions are chained together, and they don’t seem disjointed.

The demo only features the beginning of the game, but it’s more than enough to convince anyone that it’s a game that they must own. The entire game can be finished in a few hours, and there isn’t much replayability, but it’s still worth every penny.
