Superheroes are loved by children and adults alike, albeit for slightly different reasons. No matter the kind of interest you show in them, it’s always a nice feeling to get lost in another universe and imagine yourself as a supreme human being with special powers. Naturally, computer games can capitalize on this aspect a lot, especially in certain genres.
Sentinels of the Multiverse is a cooperative card game in which your role is to create your own comic book adventures and use cards to battle a variety of villains and foes. It is based on an actual card game, and there are thousands of pages of lore and information you can get familiar with. Hence, the demo version at hand is actually an extended tutorial and guide, which aims to teach you how to play the game properly and give you the incentive to try out the full game.
You are guided through battles and explained everything you need to know about the mechanics and the rest of the rules. In essence, each hero has a few special powers and cards he can use in battle, and it is up to you to choose the best option and defeat your rival. While in single player you control each of the four heroes, the experience is much more fun in co-op, where each player controls one hero.
Another great advantage of the game is the fact that it allows you to practically create your own comic book-style episodes, by choosing how the action evolves during the battle. There are certain events that can be triggered along the way, and the main villains are always planning something evil. Hence, almost every experience can be a different one if you take the time to learn how to play.
In the technical department, the game is pretty much decent, since most of the graphics are actually hand-drawn. The artwork is great, and there are a variety of intriguing backgrounds and landscapes. The soundtrack is not bad either, sporting a variety of tunes to keep you entertained and cheerful throughout the experience.
In the end, Sentinels of the Multiverse can be a tad slow in some aspects, but it holds enough content to make everyone happy for a long time. The co-op aspect is by far the most appealing feature of the game, especially if you play it with friends.
