Witches were quite hated back in the day, especially since most of them were assumed to be evil and malevolent for some reason. Hence, being labeled as a witch was certainly a serious accusation, because it usually brought a death sentence. On top of that, people could easily frame women and just spread rumors that got them in trouble.

Secrets of Great Queens: Old Tower is a hidden object adventure game in which you play the role of the queen’s companion, and you have to solve the mystery of a conspiracy that threatens to remove the queen from her throne. However, your actual task is to uncover clues by exploring the environment and solving puzzles that lead get you closer to the ones responsible.

The story starts when the queen receives a package with some kind of voodoo doll inside designed to harm her and raise suspicion on behalf of the public. Thankfully, you find it first, only to understand that your companion is about to be in a lot of trouble. Hence, the rest of the story is about trying to find out who’s behind the attempt on the queen’s life.

As for the gameplay, everything should be familiar to HOPA fans, because there’s nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to how you interact with every scene and the objects in it. Thus, your task is to search for useful items and store them in your inventory until they can be used for something. Puzzles make an appearance every now and again as well, although they are fairly repetitive and simple in nature.

The graphics do not excel in any way, but the artwork is very detailed and soothing, especially if you enjoy medieval architecture and a bit of fantasy thrown in there for fun. You are not free to move in three dimensions, but at least you get to visit a variety of beautiful scenes. There’s also voice acting for every cutscene, as well as a bit of music to tie the whole thing together.

All things considered, Secrets of Great Queens: Old Tower might not be original in any way when it comes to gameplay, but at least it allows you to experience a pretty nice story. On top of that, the puzzles can keep you busy for a while, even if it’s only because they take a while to sort because of the mechanics. NOTE: This is a downloader for the game.
