Second Sight Demo

Action is arguably the last thing the video games industry lacks, but developers continuously advertise it as being prevalent in their titles. However, the action must have a purpose and meaning in order to achieve its goal, since mindless shooting, slashing or hitting is never a very attractive prospect, regardless of how pretty you look while doing it.

Second Sight is a third-person shooter that tells the story of a man by the name of John Vattic, who one day wakes up with superpowers, although trapped in what seems to be a medical facility somewhere. However, his new abilities happen to be exactly what he needs in order to break free and find out what happened before the operations that transformed him into what he is. Thus, by using a combination of telekinesis, charm and rapid healing, you can tackle a variety of enemies and puzzles.

The game is bent on providing you with a cinematic experience, which is why the cutscenes can be quite long and dramatic, in the sense that they include as many cliches as possible. Despite that, the superpowers are quite fun to toy around with, not to mention the fact that you can use the environment to your advantage and only make use of actual weapons when there is no other solution.

There are some issues with the game as well, on the other hand, especially when it comes to the control. Although walking comes natural, everything gets slightly more complicated when you want to use an ability such as telekinesis. Due to the fact that you can manipulate a variety of things around the environment, the game automatically aims for you and it can be difficult to choose the enemy or the object you want to throw around, especially in the beginning.

Moreover, the dialogue seems very forced and juvenile, given the fact that the main character is always pointing out the obvious and making key observation about the plot while talking to himself. Fortunately, the graphic design is quite good and there is plenty of detail decorating the environments, not to mention the decent character animation and modeling.

While there are quite a few flaws to prevent Second Sight from being a very good game, the experience can be quite satisfying, as long as you are prepared to forget and let live every once in a while. The plot is decent and the superpowers are very nice to make use of, especially in the case of telekinesis.
