Sacred Citadel Demo
Prove yourself as a warrior and defend the land of Ancaria from the evil Ashen empire. #Co-Op Platformer #Multiplayer Action #2D Co-Op #Sacred #Citadel #Brawler
The guys and gals from Ascaron have managed to create quite the fantastic world for the Sacred series, even if it’s a bit too generic for the genre. However, it has all that’s needed for a hack-and-slash RPG franchise to thrive, including powerful monsters, plenty of curious characters and the usual great evil that’s always one step away from conquering the realm.
Sacred Citadel was not developed by Ascaron and it’s not an RPG either, which might make it a bit difficult for the fans of the original franchise to get used to it. In short, this is a colorful brawler set in the same universe, but with a whole different story and a new set of gameplay mechanics. As such, while you can still have fun with it, do not expect the same depth as in the RPG series.
To begin with, the story talks about the ancient Ashen empire, which has started to enslave the population and use orcs to spread their influence. Naturally, this cannot stand and a group of brave heroes goes on a quest to put an end to the spreading of evil. Along the way, you get to battle monsters and collect epic loot, which is always a nice experience, especially if it provides you with damage upgrades.
However, the game’s biggest advantage is the fact that it can be played in co-op by up to three players, which means that you can enjoy the adventure together with two other friends. The bad part is that the game itself is nowhere near as polished and as fun as it should, which is mostly because of the repetitive gameplay mechanics. In short, there are not enough combos and moves to make the few hours of story fun to go through.
What’s worse is that the game actually looks amazing from an artistic point of view, which is thanks to the nice graphics engine. It might be a bit too colorful for some, but the animations and the level design are surprisingly good. Not only that, but the sound effects are decent too, and they blend well with the overall atmosphere and the soundtrack.
When it’s all said and done, Sacred Citadel could have been a lot more than it got to be. However, the repetitive gameplay makes it very difficult to stay excited about the action for more than a few minutes, which is why the grinding gets boring almost immediately.
