SAS: Secure Tomorrow Demo
A squad-based first-person shooters that blends in a lot of interesting elements into the gameplay #Secure Tomorrow #British forces #First-person shooter #SAS #Secure #Tomorrow
The Special Air Service is a well-known unit of the British Army and it had a great deal of achievements over the years. The soldiers that are part of it are extremely well trained and they take part in some of the most dangerous missions out there, most of which are restrained to only a small squad that needs to infiltrate behind enemy lines.
SAS: Secure Tomorrow is a first-person shooter that gives you the opportunity to be a part of this elite division and participate in intense missions all over the world, while making use of highly-advanced weaponry and gadgets. Naturally, it all revolves around anti-terrorism and various other such scenarios, but the locations vary a great deal and you visit both London itself and Greenland in the process.
The game comes with a different approach to the FPS genre, in the sense that it tries to emulate titles such as SWAT or Conflict. Thus, you are always joined by two or three other squad members that do their best to assist you in battle and help you complete the missions faster and with less risk involved. However, they are barely necessary, because the enemy AI is very weak and you can simply waltz through the levels with the finger glued on the trigger, without any repercussions.
The enemies are also heavily scripted, which means that they appear before you at precise times and must complete their sequence before they are even aware of the environment. Hence, it is very easy to just run behind them in the meanwhile, because they are not capable of observing you until the script is done. Moreover, your team mates can quickly take them out most of the time, which is at least a welcomed sight.
Graphically, the game does not exactly excel, but it does make an effort to look decent and the environments are quite detailed, especially when it comes to object modeling and the characters themselves. The rag doll effects help with the atmosphere as well, although the illumination is not very spot on and you may be a bit disappointed at the crude shadow quality.
In the end, there are very few reasons to recommend SAS: Secure Tomorrow, even if the game itself is not exactly bad and it looks quite decent as well. However, everything is very monotonous, while the linearity and the scripts make it very difficult to properly enjoy the already hard-to-swallow experience.
