Rochard Demo

Rochard is a 2D action game that allows users to manipulate the environment with the help of gravity and to solve an interesting mystery.

Rochard is one of the few 2D action games that feature an interesting and compelling storyline that supports the gameplay, and which is enough in itself. Usually, this kind of games are mostly focused on the gameplay and on providing users with puzzles and various problems. That still happens in Rochard, but the main driver is the story and not the other way around.

In fact, the name of the game is given by the main character, John Rochard. He’s a miner trapped in space, and he has to make due with this tools. Please notice that Rochard is not a 2D action shooter. It’s not about killing; it’s about figuring out what happened and about the story.

John Rochard, the leader of an asteroid mining team, happens to find the remnants of an alien structure beneath the surface of an asteroid. John’s team disappears soon after that, so he sets off to find them and to understand the origins of the alien structure.

The players will get to control John, who also happens to have a very handy tool named G-Lifter. This tool can do all kinds of interesting stuff, which ranges from picking up heavy items to helping him to jump higher, or navigate in low gravity areas.

The game is built on the Unity engine, but it would be difficult to pinpoint that. The developers from Recoil Games have worked very hard on their game, and they made the best out the engine. Rochard looks great, and it handles the same.

Since a big part of the game revolves around gravity, it’s easy to see that a powerful physics engine was required. The one present in Unity does its job very well, and coupled with the cartoonish graphics, seems to have been the right choice.

The demo for Rochard is not very long, but players will get a chance to use the G-Lifter and to see what’s capable off. The full game is not all that long, but it’s worth it because of the high production value.
