Roads of Rome: New Generation
Rebuild Rome after it was hit by a disastrous wave of earthquakes that almost razed every village and city #Roads of Rome #Time management #Strategy game #Rome #Time #Management
There are many reasons the Roman Empire left a deep mark on human history, such as its size, power and great organization. However, none of these seemed to help when its dying days came and a bunch of barbarian tribes decided to trample all over the shiny empire. Naturally, there was more to it than that, but it was just another example of how such great nations don’t last forever.
Roads of Rome: New Generation is a time management game that allows you to be a part of the great Roman Empire and even help it regain its former glory. Granted, the events are not inspired by history, but it’s a great way to see what it takes to be in charge of such a monumental task. The game is mostly about gathering resources and rebuilding facilities, but there are unique missions as well.
As far as the story is concerned, it all starts when the Roman Empire is hit by a series of devastating earthquakes, which cripples the infrastructure and puts lives at risk. Your job is to play the role of Marcus Victorious, the guy whose job is to visit the affected villages and put everything back together. Fixing roads, repairing mines and various other facilities, as well as removing debris are all on your to-do list.
As the name of the genre clearly implies, it’s all about managing your resources and finishing the tasks before the allocated time runs out. However, you can play without a time limit in the relaxed mode, although the challenge diminishes greatly without it. The way you prioritize the tasks becomes unimportant once the timer is gone, making it just a click fest.
Even if you play it by the book, on the other hand, the missions become rather repetitive and annoying after a while. It’s just more of the same, except in greater quantities. If this doesn’t bother you, then you should have a great time, although it’s difficult to imagine how doing the same thing over and over again for no significant rewards can be entertaining for long.
In the end, there’s nothing particularly innovative about Roads of Rome: New Generation, but if you enjoyed the previous titles in the series, then you should feel comfortable with this one as well. The graphics have been improved as well in the meantime.
