Exploring the nature is something most people desire, but unfortunately our current lifestyle doesn’t allow us to do so very often. Living in a city has many advantages, but it also comes with a couple of disadvantages, the most annoying of which is the fact that you are far away from forests or anything of the sort. Thankfully, we have video games that can fool our senses for a while, which counts for something.

Riding Out is an intriguing adventure game with RPG elements and an open world for you to explore, although it’s still in a very early development stage, so it also comes with plenty of bugs and annoyances. However, there’s definitely potential in the idea, at least as long as the developers keep at it and continue to add content, as well as improve the mechanics.

In short, you play the role of a girl who decides to help her uncle with the farm, although the story is very thin at the moment, and it doesn’t have too much of an impact on the gameplay. There are only a handful of missions right now, and most of them require you to find and return certain objects, which is not very fun. The interface could use a lot of work as well.

The game is played from a third-person perspective, so you have full control over the camera, which makes movement simple and enjoyable. There are a few annoyances that can be fixed in the future, however, such as the fact that there’s too much motion blur, or that your character can perform impressive leaps that kind of ruin the experience.

Lastly, the interface is very basic at the moment, especially when it comes to the HUD and the dialog boxes. These annoyances can be fixed with relative ease as well, but other problems might require a bit too much work. As such, the boring and repetitive world design becomes a problem in a rush, especially if you decide to explore the environment a little bit.

All things considered, Riding Out is not a bad game per se, it’s just very, very early in the development phase, and it might have been a better idea to hold on a while longer before releasing it to the public. However, there’s definitely potential, especially if the developers keep at it.
