Investigate a creepy case in an ancient cemetery and stop a great evil in this hidden object adventure game #Puzzle game #Adventure game #Hidden object #Adventure #Supernatural #Fantasy
Cemeteries are pretty obvious spooky places, which why they find they find way into many horror stories and creepy movies. However, they can get rather annoying after a while, especially after you listen to a few dozens stories that take place in a cemetery. Zombies are already a very dry subject, so it’s difficult to get people interested in stories that have already been told so many times before.
Redemption Cemetery: Embodiment of Evil is a simple hidden object adventure game with a decent story, in which you have to hunt a supernatural evil and save a lady in distress at the same time. There are no grand ideas at work in terms of storytelling or gameplay, but then again the familiar mechanics might be exactly what you are looking for if you are a fan of the genre.
Everything starts when the main character - a supernatural detective of some sort - receives an urgent series of messages from an anonymous lady. She is apparently in some cemetery and in grave danger, so you immediately go out there to lend a hand. Obviously, things get a lot more convoluted once you get there, especially since it turns out that you have to deal with a pretty powerful entity.
The gameplay evolves as you would expect from a classic HOPA, which means that you get to explore a variety of locations and keep your eyes open for any items that can be picked up. Some are used later on to solve puzzles, while others can be combined to obtain various other useful objects. The actual puzzles are nothing too special, but some of them might provide you with a challenge every now and again.
As for the visual aspect, every scene contains a lot of detail, and the landscapes are quite engaging too, even if they are static and there’s not a lot of movement in the cutscenes either. Everything is nicely drawn and well-placed in the background, however, so the places you visit feel pretty authentic most of the time, while the sound effects help with the atmosphere as well.
Even if the story is a bit too predictable and overburdened with cliches, Redemption Cemetery: Embodiment of Evil is still able to keep you invested in the action, especially if you are a fan of the genre. The mystery is quite intriguing, and so are the puzzles.
