Fantasy wars are always so evenly matched in the end, in spite of the fact that one side appears to be invincible in the beginning. On the other hand, there’s always a hero or a band of heroes that somehow manages to pinpoint a huge flaw in the villain’s plan. Granted, that’s the thrill when it comes to RPGs or adventure games, since it would be pretty disappointing to lose no matter what you try.
Queen's Quest III: End of Dawn is a hidden object adventure game that sends you on a beautiful journey across a gorgeous, but dangerous world, in order to retrieve three mighty artifacts. Do not expect anything original in terms of gameplay mechanics, given the fact that it’s just more of the same as it’s always the case in the genre. Even so, there’s plenty of fun to be had if you concentrate on the adventure itself.
It all starts in the middle of a fierce battle, when Eliana, a student of magic at the Academy is sent on an urgent mission to retrieve three powerful artifacts called the Dragon Crystals. These should be enough for the good guys to win the war, but the journey is far from easy for Eliana. Hence, she has a tough road ahead, full of enemies, mysteries and riddles.
The puzzles follow the classic formula most of the time, which means that first you have to examine every scene for useful items, and after that you have to use these items in order to solve the actual puzzles. Mechanics-wise, your job is to find the right pattern and apply it until the riddles are solved, although sometimes it’s a bit more difficult than that. Not very often, on the other hand, so the action might get repetitive after a while.
Visually, the game is definitely gorgeous, especially in terms of level design and background quality. Every scene contains a humongous amount of objects and special effects, even if they are all pre-rendered or hand-drawn. In fact, this makes the scenes a lot cozier and more welcoming, not to mention the nice sound effects that help a lot with the atmosphere as well.
At the end of the day, Queen's Quest III: End of Dawn is not designed to surprise you in terms of gameplay, but it’s a great way to change your mood for the better. Hence, it’s the perfect way to make your afternoon brighter and put your brain to work at the same time. NOTE: This is a downloader for the game.
