Quake 4 Demo

Quake 4 is a first-person shooter that takes off after where the second game in series left off. It was constructed using the Doom 3 engine: id Tech 4.

Our planet is in grave danger as a hostile race of aliens, the Strogg, have decided to annihilate humanity and use us to replenish their forces or to feed on us. After battling on various places on Earth, Matthew Kane, an elite member of Rhino Squad, is sent on a mission to the alien's home world: Stroggos.

Matthew Kane's ship is shut down and he is separated from his squad. After fighting his way to reunite with his teammates, the Rhino Squad receives one of the toughest missions: to infiltrate and destroy the Strogg's central communication hubs.

Upon being captured by the enemy, our protagonist is slowly turned into one of the aliens with almost every part of his body replaced with bio-mechanical parts. He is now able to use their own technology against the Strogg in order to destroy them.

As a shooter with horror elements, a lot of pressure is put into the AI enemies. Unfortunately killing them can get a bit repetitive as most will move and shoot in exactly the same way. Shooting one type of alien trains you for the rest. There are some cool weapons available and if you get hurt you can always find medic packs lying around.

The game features both a singleplayer and a multiplayer mod. The singleplayer will allow you to choose between four different difficulty levels before starting your missions as Matthew Kane. The multiplayer features several addictive modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Tourney, Capture the Flag, Arena CTF and DeadZone.

There are several boss fight you will have to win. Some are before Matthew's transformation, while the most spectacular ones are after his stroggification process. New to Quake 4 are the ramp jumps and the crouch slides, moves that improve the quality of the gameplay.

The singleplayer campaign is pretty varied in terms of content: enemies, weapons, mission, yet the multiplayer tends to remind us a bit too much of Quake 3. The blood and gore visuals are pretty nicely done and exploring the underground tunnels and trenches can send shivers down your spine.
