Pursuit of Power 2: The Chaos Dimension Demo
Gather resources and build an army in this retro real-time strategy game with pixel graphics #Pursuit of power #Real-time strategy #Strategy game #Strategy #RTS #Fantasy
When it comes to real-time strategy games, it’s pretty clear that the genre is not what it used to be, especially since franchises like C&C and WarCraft are pretty much dead at this point. However, many have tried to keep the genre going in different ways, and it’s nice to see new ideas every now and again. Even so, a throwback to the good-old-days is also a welcome sight.
Pursuit of Power 2: The Chaos Dimension is not exactly classic when it comes to gameplay mechanics, but it certainly ticks a lot of the right boxes. Hence, this is a real-time strategy game in which the main goal is to collect resources and expand your influence around the map, while also spawning more creatures to add to your army and defeat the enemies that try to do the same.
You begin with a simple crystal formation and a leader unit, and your first task is to claim the crystals in order to build a fortress on top of them. After that, you have to quickly scout the map in search of more crystals to serve as fortresses, all while using zealots to collect resources and your commander unit to spawn more warriors. Although it’s not the same, veterans of the RTS genre should find many familiar mechanics.
The game is in a very early stage at the moment, which is obvious in every way. There’s no tutorial available yet, which means that you are most likely going to be confused from the start. There are some instructions and guides you can consult, on the other hand, and it also helps if you use the trial & error approach. Speaking of which, the combat feels a tad anticlimactic at this point, but this chapter is probably going to be refined in future versions.
In terms of graphics, things are as basic as you would expect from a retro title, but that doesn’t mean the game is ugly. In fact, the environments look very detailed and enjoyable, even in this early version. It’s still a bit of a bother that the maps are a tad barren and lackluster in terms of variety, but then again this is yet another part that’s going to be improved later on.
In the end, Pursuit of Power 2: The Chaos Dimension still has a long way to go until it can be classified as a proper game, but it displays all the signs of a great RTS. Hence, it’s worth keeping an eye on the development process if you are a fan of the genre.
