Cars are much easier to manufacture today, but that doesn’t mean everyone can afford one whenever they need it. Obviously, there are hundreds of millions of vehicles out there, a lot more than there were a few decades ago, but they still come at a pretty steep price. Hence, it’s not very efficient to buy one just to crash it and see what happens, or at least it’s not an option for most people.

Project Wheels is a racing game in which you only have one purpose: get to the finish line as quickly as possible while overcoming all sorts of obstacles along the way. The main idea is that you have to make it in the shortest time possible, because there are no opponents and nothing else to distract you from your purpose. On the other hand, it’s not as easy as it sounds.

The track itself is riddled with all kinds of annoyances, especially since it’s designed out of multiple platforms that are not really connected with each other. On top of that, they are also positioned at weird angles, which means that you have to steer carefully in order to avoid flipping the car over. All of these obstacles make the challenge even more fun, on the other hand, especially if you are hunting for a high score.

Although there are not many levels included in the game, you at least get to drive a different car on all of them, which should keep you from getting bored. The shape of the vehicle is very important, especially since the game tries to emulate real world physics. Hence, a taller van flips rather quickly, which makes it even more difficult to remain in the race after you accelerate past a certain point.

As for the graphics, the game is as simple as possible in this regard, which means that there’s nothing to look at but some primitive polygons and a skybox. Even so, you can have a lot of fun with the game without worrying about the graphics, especially since it’s so challenging. On the other hand, it would have been nice to see better environments at the very least.

Even if there are much better looking games out there, Project Wheels provides you with something unique when it comes to the gameplay. Hence, if you are willing to turn a blind eye to a few bugs and the lack of attention to detail, this can certainly keep you busy for a while.
