Project Sense Demo

Most supernatural mystery games feel the same when it comes to the story and the apparitions you have to deal with, which is why the genre can get repetitive and boring. Developers can include these concepts in new and intriguing projects, however, because it’s always possible to take a look at a certain subject from a different angle and present it in a new way.

Project Sense is a 2.5D adventure game with puzzle elements and a deep mystery for you to unravel over the course of the story, as well as a horror vibe. In short, your goal is to solve puzzles by collecting useful items and talking to certain characters, all while slowly revealing more information about the protagonist and her family curse. The demo does not feature too many puzzles, on the other hand, so it’s difficult to assess how the final product is going to be like.

The main character’s name is Mei-Lin Mak, and she lives in Neo Hong-Kong in the year 2083. Since the environments are inspired by both cyberpunk themes and Chinese folklore, the atmosphere is pretty unique, and so are the landscapes. Implants are a big part of the story as well, since even Mei-Lin has a pair of cybernetic eyes that help her gather more information about the environment.

As mentioned before, the puzzles are mostly about gathering useful items and obtaining information from other characters, so don’t expect too much in this regard, at least not in the demo at hand. The interface can be a bit sketchy sometimes, however, because your character needs to be in a very precise position in order to interact with some of the objects.

Probably the most impressive thing about the game is the artwork quality, especially when it comes to backdrops and the drawings used for the comic-book style cutscenes. Because of this, it’s very easy to get in the proper mood and be in tune with the overall atmosphere of Neo Hong-Kong. The music is decent as well, but there’s not a lot of it in the demo, unfortunately.

As long as the interface and control issues are ironed out, Project Sense promises to be a very enjoyable experience, especially if you enjoy cyberpunk stories. Thus, you can help the developers by participating in their Kickstarter campaign.
