Project Eden Demo
Descend into the underworld of a futuristic city and battle the mutants that reside there #Third-person shooter #Squad control #Commando team #Eden #Action #Adventure
The future may hold many secrets, but some of them can be guessed and predicted beforehand, if you look at the signs and the current direction of things. Hence, while you may not say for certain what the society will look like in fifty years time, you can at least predict that the buildings are going to be taller and the computers much more advanced, which makes for an interesting combination.
Project Eden tries to envision such an utopia and presents you with quite the interesting setting, one in which humans have built their structures so high up that most of them do not get to touch the ground all their lives. Moreover, the society is split in layers and the human living conditions get worse and worse as you descend toward the Earth’s surface, where poverty, disease and crime are more than common.
In the game, you get to control a team of four highly-trained soldiers that go on a quest to find some technicians that went missing a while ago. Along the way, you start to encounter stranger things as you descend deeper and deeper toward the ground, such as mutants and various other disturbing creatures. As it turns out, one man is responsible for all these contraptions, which means that you must find him and put an end to his plans.
The vertical cities make for some very interesting level design possibilities, although most of the action goes on indoors and the view is not that majestic. On the other hand, the surrounding environments get more depressing as you keep on descending, which definitely does wonders for the atmosphere and makes the gameplay that much more exciting, albeit slightly predictable and repetitive.
The team-based mechanics are functional and responsive, which makes it very simple for you to take advantage of every individual’s specific strengths and abilities. Changing between squadmates is as simple as performing a mouse click, although you need to know which one is more suited for a specific situation. This makes the puzzles that much more captivating and engaging, even if they are not very difficult or too complex to begin with.
Overall, Project Eden is definitely a good game and worthy of a shot, especially if you are a fan of science-fiction and you can get used with the rather slow-paced nature of the title. The game looks nice for its age and the gameplay held up pretty well too, which should make it easier to digest if you are not one to be a fan of oldies.
