Prehistoric Tales is a time management game in which your goal is to help a tribe of prehistoric people survive the harsh wilderness and protect themselves from all sorts of dangers. In short, most of your time is spent gathering resources and using them to add new buildings, upgrade already existing ones or spend them on various other useful endeavors.

There’s not much of a plot to follow, but the game starts with an extensive tutorial that shows you everything you need to know in order to get the most out of your workers and available resources. After that, you are left on your own, although you still have to accomplish various objectives in order to gain experience and advance your civilization.

In case you are not familiar with the genre, your task is to move as quickly as possible at all times. You can send workers to gather resources, build facilities or clear the road of obstacles, but you have a limited number of workers at your disposal. Naturally, you can increase their number by adding more housing, and the same is true for almost every other building you can erect. Thus, they all have multiple upgrade levels that makes them faster and more efficient.

As for the graphics, the top-down perspective is very well-chosen for the genre, especially since it’s important that you always see a big portion of the map. Whenever dinosaurs attack and you must defend, it comes in handy to see a large section of the village at once. The visual quality is pleasant enough to help you really imagine yourself in a lush prehistoric world.

In the end, Prehistoric Tales appears to be one class above most time management flicks, especially when it comes to gameplay complexity and graphics. Not only that, but the mechanics change and evolve on a regular basis, which keeps you from getting bored.
