Become a pokemon trainer and defeat your rivals in this attempt to recreate the series as a top-down RPG #Pokemon Trainer #Train Pokemon #Pokemon Fighter #Pokemon #Trainer #Fighter
Whether you are a fan or not, the impact Pokemon had on an entire generation is worthy of respect, especially since it is still kicking after all these years. Although the anime was the centerpiece of the series, plenty of video games managed to recreate the excitement of hunting for pokemons, most of which were released on portable gaming devices.
Pokemon Moonlight Black is a top-down role-playing game with 8-bit graphics and heavy oriental influences when it comes to gameplay and the general mood. While it is obviously a copy after the original releases, you can still find a bit of originality here and there, even if the game is still way too incomplete to be accurately judged.
In essence, the game only contains a handful of maps and one encounter, although you are free to take complete control of the battle and even customize the strength of your pokemon. On the other hand, beside moving around from one place to the other and stumbling into repetitive environments, there’s not much else to do, because there are not a lot of people present in the game either.
The game also provides you with the option to start a random encounter at any point by simply pressing a specific button on the keyboard. In case you are not familiar with the Pokemon series, the battles are turn-based and each pokemon gets its turn to perform an action. Unfortunately, the range of available skills and abilities is rather limited in the game at hand.
Speaking of limited, the graphics are way too minimal for a PC, especially since the small resolution can cause a lot of headaches. Things get better once you enter a fight, because the window gets a whole lot bigger, but even so, most of your time is spent out on the map. The sound is terrible as well and it doesn’t always work either.
All things consider, Pokemon Moonlight Black is not exactly a game, but more of a tool for designers to create their own stories and games. Hence, if you are passionate about Pokemon and you need some sort of starting place, this might as well be it, as long as you put some work into the level design.
