Pixie Demo
Trap your enemies and fill the levels with flowers, using the pixie's special magic powers. #Magic fairy #Arcade game #Volfied clone #Pixie #Arcade #Fairy
Some games managed to remain engraved on the collective memory of the gaming community, thanks to their unique ideas, exquisite gameplay mechanics, or amazing stories. However, others are just remembered for their addictive gameplay, which kept you playing for hours at end, or at least until frustration and tiredness kicked in.
Pixie is not exactly an original idea, since it borrows its mechanics and general gameplay from Volfied, which was released more than two decades ago. However, the new look it sports makes it appear somewhat different, while the addictive nature has remained largely unchanged. On the other hand, the game does appear to be directed toward the younger audience, unlike the original.
In case you are not familiar with Volfied, the main purpose of the game is to fill the screen with a specific pattern, by moving around without being touched by the enemies. Naturally, it is far easier said than done, especially in the later stages, when the enemies are fast and vicious. In Pixie, the mechanics are the same, only you use vines to draw straight lines between the walls of the enclosure.
From time to time, power-ups are dropped when you manage to crush a few enemies under the vines. While some of them are liable to grant you additional speed or various other advantages, others are not so helpful and they can really make your life more difficult. Hence, the enemies can also take advantage of ridiculous speeds to make it impossible for you to lay any vines.
Visually, the colorful environments should make the target audience more than happy, especially since every action brings forth a wave of color and fancy particle effects. The sound is also quite jolly and fun to listen to, although the tunes do get quite repetitive after a while. Thankfully, the rest of the technical aspects are fully functional, so there are not a lot of bugs you can stumble into.
Although it is certainly not as brilliant and addictive as the original, Pixie can still keep you glued to the screen for a few hours, if you give it the chance. However, the silly theme and the bright colors might discourage older players from giving it a try, which is quite a shame.
