Pato Box Demo
Use your fists to bring down an evil corporation in this black and white fighting game with arcade mechanics #Fighting game #Action game #Adventure game #Adventure #Action #Boxing
Being a professional fighter comes with considerable risks, even if you manage to get through your whole career without major injuries, which is highly unlikely. Hence, the aftermath of a lifetime of hits to the head is usually some kind of brain disease, such as Parkinson’s or various other nasty conditions. On the other hand, it helps if your hand is shaking in the mansion you bought with the winnings.
Pato Box is an interesting action game with puzzles and arcade fighting mechanics, in which you play the role of a boxer who decides to take down the corporation that betrayed him. Although it looks deceptively simple, the game is actually quite original when it comes to the gameplay and the story. It’s also very addictive if you enjoy simple combat mechanics based on reflexes.
It all starts when the main character loses a fight because he was betrayed by his sponsors, so he decides to enact his revenge. The mission is long and dangerous, especially since you must take on dozens of henchmen along the way and somehow get past all the security measures that protect the ones responsible for your demise. Thankfully, your fists can pretty much solve everything.
Although the whole thing is presented in the fashion of comic book panels, the game is more interactive than it appears at first. Hence, the combat requires keen reflexes and a bit of concentration, even if all you can do is dodge, block and punch either left or right, or high left and high right. On the other hand, you are free to roam around the environment in three dimensions when you are not in a fight, which makes the action feel more exciting.
Speaking of which, the graphics are interesting to say the least, given the fact that everything is in black & white with mostly outlines, just like in a comic book. However, this actually helps a lot with the atmosphere, because it feels a lot darker than it would be if the color palette were wider. The sound effects aren’t bad either, but the game needs some work in this regard.
Pato Box is a lot more engaging and complex than it appears at first, but it’s also highly addictive if you enjoy fast-paced fighting games. Hence, you can show your support to the developers by participating in the game’s Kickstarter campaign.
