Overpower Demo

Overpower is a class-based fantasy combat game developed and published by Hydrant Games that pits players against other people or AI bots in arenas.

Making a multiplayer game that’s fresh and that's a real competitor in today’s world is really difficult. A lot of studios and publishers are making multiplayer games, and they covered pretty much all the corners. Fortunately, there are still a few small spaces between the cracks and from time to time a new studio comes with something that feels new, but it just fills a niche in the multiplayer genre.

With that mind, we can only welcome another multiplayer game that tries to bring something new to the table, even if it’s still in development and it will take a while to be completed. The basic ideas behind the Overpower game are solid, and the only thing that needs to be refined is the technical implementation, which is lacking.

Overpower is an arena brawler that gives players the possibility of choosing from a few classes and duking it out in a closed arena. It’s a simple recipe, and you might think that it has been used before. That would be true, but not entirely.

The class systems, the powers of each class, and the different attacks, have been seen in other titles, but the developers from Hydrant Games have brought it together in another way. At times, it feels like we’re playing a MOBA game from a third person perspective, only that it more focused like a PvP.

Don’t get me wrong. Overpower is not all that original, but the way the elements are blended gives it potential. For now, the demo version only has a single arena, and it allows people to play for only 10 minutes, but it should be enough to figure out if you like it.

The only problem seems to be the technical implementation, which is still lacking. The game has poor framerate even on a powerful system. That might change when a stable version is completed, but for now, it’s not something that we will have to accept.
