Out of The Hat Demo

The general gaming community has developed a more refined taste when it comes to the stories they are willing to accept when talking about games. Abstract notions represented through deep and cryptic symbolism are often the centerpiece of modern games, and that seems to be the case precisely because it keeps you thinking about what could be the hidden meaning behind it all. One such mind bending game would be Out of The Hat, a dark-themed puzzle-platformer where you play as nothing more than a scared little girl with a magical hat.

One of the first things you'll notice when trying this game is the unique art style that seems like it came out of the minds of Tim Burton, Terry Gilliam, HP Lovecraft and many more. Everything is dark, characterized and filled with symbolism, greatly deepening the artistic feel that the game has, while the soundtrack is eerie and the constant panting of the protagonist will make you emulate her fear of what's around her.

You don't have any weapons or super powers, nor can you do any special acrobatics, as you are nothing more than a scared little girl that happened to wake up in a dark and strange forest.  Your only ally along the way is your trusty top hat which you find early on, and it will be your main solution towards getting through everything.

There is no actual way of you confronting your environment, so the only way for you to pass it all is by  using your magical hat, which you can throw and then teleport to where it lands, or even mid-flight! Some obstacles will require quick reflexes which usually involve throwing the hat and teleporting to it at the right moment for you to pass, so the game is not exactly a walk in the park.

If you love feeling challenged because of not being able to time certain moves, or if you're just an avid fan of the works of Tim Burton, Terry Gilliam, HP Lovecraft or even Lewis Caroll's Alice in Wonderland, then Out of The Hat is the game for you.
