Orange Moon Demo
Explore a dangerous moon and survive its perils in this 2D platformer with a few RPG elements #2d platformer #Retro sidescroller #Role-playing game #Platformer #Sidescroller #Role-play
Platformers are as popular today as they ever were, thanks to new development tools that make it very easy for people to design them. Even those who are beginners in the art of coding can throw something together with enough patience and dedication. On the other hand, it still takes vision and talent for a good video game to be created, or at least an exciting new idea to attract a crowd.
Orange Moon is a 2D platformer set in a sci-fi universe, in which you have to survive the harsh environments of a dark moon. The game also features a few RPG elements, in the sense that you can upgrade your equipment and use the resources you find to acquire better weapons. However, just like in most platformers out there, the primary goal is to survive and get to the end of the stage.
The story is rather bleak and dark, although not in a horror way. As it happens, you are somewhere on a distant moon, trying to mine its resources and survive a variety of dangers that litter its surface. You can deploy beacons to mine drones, as well as gather powerful artifacts to help you along. Obviously, there are aliens and machines that try to kill you with every opportunity they get, so it’s mandatory to keep an eye out for enemies.
There is much more to Orange Moon than just mindless shooting, on the other hand. Some obstacles can be overcome with wit instead of firepower, and you are sometimes required to think your way around certain perils. Still, it wouldn’t be an action platformer if you couldn’t collect a variety of powerful weapons, not to mention grenades and special items. You can use the resources to upgrade your equipment and become more powerful.
The controls are simple and intuitive, which makes it simple to explore the levels and deal with all sorts of traps. As far as the visual quality is concerned, the artwork is certainly intriguing, but there seems to be a little too much darkness engulfing the environment. While this is not a problem by itself, it makes the levels appear more repetitive, at least in certain areas.
All things considered, Orange Moon is still early in the development phase, so a lot could change over time. There’s a lot of potential, on the other hand, especially if the developers keep adding more content and possibilities.
