Most sci-fi stories involve ludicrous concepts that make the action feel more exciting, even if the writers sometimes forget to explain these ideas. Video games get away with this more often, on the other hand, mostly because the players are much more involved in the action and they can have fun without worrying about these things.

Omega Pattern is an interactive visual novel that throws you into a dark world full of bad people and oppression, in which you must make the right choices and maybe change everything for the better. The freedom to tackle situations in different ways is what makes the story so appealing, in fact, mainly because you can re-play the experience and see new things every time.

In short, the story takes place in a world where certain people can acquire psychic abilities, which are determined by their personality and previous life experiences. Naturally, an organization by the name of Bioagora decides to recruit all of these individuals in order to control the world, and they are not asking nicely. You play the role of a man who discovers that he has psychic powers and he must stay out of the organization’s reach.

As mentioned before, the plot is flexible, which means that it evolves depending on what you choose to say or do in key moments. There are three different storylines to follow along the way, plus many smaller events that differ whenever you pick one route instead of the other. Your psychic powers are based on your personality, so they change along the way too.

The artwork is worth a bit of praise as well, although there are some issues in this regard. Even if the drawings are very nice and moody, it’s a bit of a bother to see them covered in text sometimes. However, if you manage to ignore this aspect and concentrate on the artwork itself, it should be easy to imagine yourself in a different world, especially thanks to the great scenes depicted in nice colors.

In the end, Omega Pattern might be just the thing you were looking for, especially if you are a sci-fi fan. Multiple playthroughs are always nice to have, at least if every route is different and exciting enough to be worth the extra time.
