Powerful artifacts are always at the center of fantasy stories, even if they do not seem very important at first. People are quick to attribute magical powers to certain objects, especially if they are old and they are associated with religious practices. In fact, even modern society puts a lot of trust into talismans and things like that, although the practice is certainly a lot less common than it was in the past.

Myths of the World: Island of Forgotten Evil is a casual hidden object adventure game in which you get to play with ancient powers and have a glimpse into a magical world full of spirits and various other apparitions. It’s no different from most hidden object games out there, but at least the story is somewhat unique, not to mention the fact that you get to witness a new universe.

As for the story, it all starts when the main character’s uncle leaves him instructions on how to find a powerful artifact. Naturally, the artifact in question plays an important role in the events that are about to unfold, since it can be used to dispel an evil curse. You also get to travel to fascinating places and meet spirits that can give you clues about what you should be doing.

The gameplay unfolds about as you would expect from a HOPA, which means that most of the time you’ll be searching for useful items that help you unlock the way further into the game. Every now and again you have to tackle a puzzle as well, although these puzzles are not very complicated and they can be skipped anyway if you are playing on the lowest difficulty level.

There’s something calming about the hand-drawn graphics featured by the game, especially since this allows for a lot more detail in the background. Granted, you have to make due without animations or 3D exploration, but then again that would make the hidden object scenes a tad more annoying. The cutscenes look pretty hilarious as well, although you can focus on their message instead.

Although Myths of the World: Island of Forgotten Evil fails to bring anything new or original to the genre in regards to gameplay mechanics, the story and the atmosphere are definitely worth the effort.
