Mystery Tales: Her Own Eyes Collector's Edition

There are plenty of people out there who claim to have the ability to talk with the dead, or at least see their spirits. If such claims were true, then it would be a lot easier to solve violent crimes by just talking to the ghosts of the victims. Thankfully, such things are indeed very possible in the realm of video games, as are many other exciting things.

Mystery Tales: Her Own Eyes Collector's Edition is a hidden object adventure game in which you get the chance to contact the dead and use the information to catch bad guys. In short, you play the role of a girl capable of seeing into the afterlife, a skill that allows her to do a better job than the cops at catching criminals. On the other hand, the game is mostly about searching for certain objects, so it’s not as exciting as it sounds either.

Everything starts in the main character’s hometown, which happens to be in Hallstatt, Austria. The case regards a series of strange disappearances all of over town that no one seems to be figuring out, especially not the cops. Hence, you start to investigate and gather clues, while also peering into the afterlife to see how things really went on, or even to ask spirits for guidance.

Every now and again you stumble onto a puzzle that requires a bit more tinkering than the rest of the hidden objects. These are almost always different, and it’s a great way to diversify the gameplay and help the players stay entertained over long periods of time. Granted, the lowest difficulty level allows you to skip these puzzles and move along, but you’ll be losing a great deal of the actual game by doing so.

As always, the graphics are pretty much spot on, especially when it comes to level design and the attention to every detail. The scenes are not particularly large, but every object looks like it belongs in there, and there are some special effects added on top of the image as well. The sound quality is satisfactory as well, especially when it comes to voice acting and other effects.

Even if Mystery Tales: Her Own Eyes Collector's Edition does not differ all that much from most other games in the genre, the experience is engaging enough for that not to matter. The story is interesting enough to keep you busy until the end.
