American Football is a sport that’s obviously not very popular outside the United States, especially since the best teams in the world are all within the NFL itself. Most countries around the world have their own traditional sports, including soccer, tennis, cricket or hockey. However, it’s sad that there are not many football simulators out there for fans to enjoy.

Mutant Football League is not exactly what sports fans have in mind when they think of football, but that’s not an issue after you start playing. Hence, the main idea is that violence and gore are the main elements of the game, and human players have been replaced by mutants and mechanical robots. Hence, all bets are off when it comes to how the two teams treat each other on the pitch.

To begin with, most of the real football rules still apply, more or less, which means that the goal is to score points by getting the ball and achieving touchdowns. However, this is a lot harder to do when the entire stadium is full of deadly traps and saws that cut the players in half if they do not time their runs properly. There are far fewer rules when it comes to player interaction as well.

Although the full game features a single player mode as well, things are much more exciting when you are competing with human opponents. There are all sorts of dirty tricks and strategies you can use to gain the upper hand, including goodies like turning into a massive robot to literally crush the opposing team. Up to four players can enjoy themselves at once in the local multiplayer mode, which is more than enough.

The game is actually very polished in terms of graphics and sound effects as well, especially when you take into consideration the fact that there are commentators relaying the action. The stadiums are always roaring with screams and chants, not to mention the voice acting for the players themselves. Even the graphics are top-notch when it comes to animations and texture quality, although they do not require powerful computers in order to run smoothly.

Mutant Football League is in some ways more fun than the real thing, which should make fans of the sport very happy. However, it’s worth noting that at this point the game does not work very well with a keyboard, which means that you really need a controller in order to be able to play.
