Monkey Panic Demo
Help primates survive in a harsh world and use team tactics to keep predators at bay #Strategy game #Tile strategy #Stealth game #Stealth #Strategy #Tactic
Primates have been around for quite some time now, and since we ourselves are living proof, they can adapt and evolve in almost any conditions. However, luck had a lot to do with it over the millennia, because there were many times when almost everything was raised to the ground. We can only imagine what would our planet look like if people weren’t part of the equation.
Monkey Panic is a strategy game in which survival is the key element and everything else revolves around it. In essence, the goal is to help various types of primates work together in order to fend off predators and make it another day, while also finding food and looking out for their young. Everything takes place in real-time, but the mechanics are not like in your average RTS.
Instead, you can only control one primate at a time, although you have the option to jump between them with a simple keystroke. There are multiple types of monkeys, and they all have special abilities, so it’s important that you carefully make use of all of them at the right time. Some can be pretty menacing when packed together, while others are small and more agile, but they are all important in the grand scheme of things.
The maps are pretty small and simple, but they are crawling with all sorts of predators. Your main weapon is sight, on the other hand, because it’s important to face your monkeys in all directions and keep an eye out for intruders. Terrain plays a crucial role as well, because not all primates are great in tall grass, while some make excellent guards if you make proper use of their sight.
As for the graphics, don’t expect anything too fancy in this regard, although this is merely a demo at this point. The map is build using hexagonal tiles, and each tile is clearly divided from the ones around it. This looks pretty ancient at this point, but it’s good enough of the strategic part works as intended. So far, the mechanics are a tad too clunky and slow, but much can be improved in the future.
When it’s all said and done, Monkey Panic could easily become a more complex and enjoyable strategy game, but at the moment it’s a bit too empty. Hence, we can only hope that the developers keep improving it and adding more features in the future.
