Mimic Hunter Demo

As with every other activity that requires effort, practice and a bit of talent, gaming can be very competitive in the right circumstances. However, the current e-sports scene mostly revolves around shooters and MOBAs, but other genres have just as much potential to be played competitively. Platformers are not exactly fit for such endeavors, but you can find thousands of people trying to speedrun them for glory and Internet points.
Mimic Hunter is a 2.5D platformer with action elements, in which you play as a rat trying to reach the top of a huge tower in order to stop a powerful demon from entering his world. The game is designed to be tough as nails in terms of difficulty, but unfortunately it suffers from severe problems as well, most of which are related to the gameplay mechanics and the controls.
The main character’s name is Monsieur Ratimousse, and he is quite the accomplished hunter in his world. However, the magic tower he is trying to climb is more challenging than anything he has ever faced, so you need to put a lot of effort into your playthrough as well. The main goal is to jump from one platform to the next as smoothly as possible while avoiding enemies and traps, but this is easier said than done.
Although the game is still a demo and a beta version at that, the gameplay issues must be addressed as quickly as possible. Your character does not move smoothly and does not respond to your input as you would expect, which very bad news in a game that supposedly rewards good reaction times. The levels are indeed challenging, but it’s harder to keep your character under control than it is to jump over spikes.
Speaking of which, the input is pretty horrendous most of the time, especially since you slip for no reason, double-jumping rarely works as intended and the collision system is all over the place. You also have to climb on walls sometimes, but for some reason the character lets go if you take your finger off the button, and performing lateral jumps is next to impossible sometimes.
In the end, Mimic Hunter is a pretty intriguing game, but in its current state it is anything but enjoyable or entertaining. There’s a difference between difficult levels and unrefined mechanics, so Mimic Hunter needs to address the control issues before it can call itself challenging.
