Midorea: The Valhyr Demo
Solve puzzles and explore a fantasy world in this interactive visual novel with nice graphics #Visual novel #Puzzle game #Interactive story #Novel #Puzzle #Fantasy
Fantasy worlds are always a pleasure the explore if they are well-designed, mainly because it’s nice to get lost in a different universe for a while. Video games are great in this regard, especially since you can play your own role in the story, so you truly feel like you are part of the world. On the other hand, the writing must be decent in order for the experience to be enjoyable.
Midorea: The Valhyr is an interesting chimera that’s part visual novel and part point & click adventure game, with the added pleasure of solving puzzles. The game is still in pretty early development, so don’t expect an awful lot gameplay-wise. Even so, it’s nice to see something different in terms of story and world design.
As the name implies, the adventure takes place in a fantasy world called Midorea, although it’s pretty difficult to understand it in the demo. This is because the introduction is pretty sloppy, given the fact that you begin in a strange scene and with a bit of dialog. You should theoretically care about the dialog in question, but it’s difficult to do so when you have no knowledge about the characters.
Your job along the way is to investigate the environments and examine objects in order to find something you can use to advance the story. To do so, all you have to do is look around and click on the items that are highlighted. Besides examining them, it’s also possible to use a couple of items, and this option is displayed when you hover over the object in question.
Lastly, the graphics are quite enjoyable, especially when it comes to level design and the quality of the artwork. Every landscape is dreamy and nicely colored, which does wonders for the atmosphere. The puzzles can be pretty challenging, depending on your experience with the genre and your patience level.
When it’s all said and done, Midorea: The Valhyr should be a pretty interesting experience by the time it’s complete, but it has a long way to go. Hence, at the moment it’s a bit too confusing and slow to keep you engaged.
