Memory Remake Demo

As annoying as it may sound, not all life decisions are taken by you, since there are times when things are decided for you instead. The actual choice on your behalf is whether to live with it or try your best to change things back, and there is obviously no right answer to this dilemma. However, sometimes the problems are not as serious as they seem at first, so there’s no need for extreme measures.

Memory Remake is a lightweight visual novel with basic artwork and a rather simple story, in which you play the role of a girl as she is uprooted from her childhood home and thrown into a new environment. The demo at hand does not show it too well, but apparently you should be able to make a few plot-altering decisions along the way, so this is not a completely hands-off visual novel with kinetic gameplay.

The girl’s name is Haruna, and her drama begins when she moves to a new neighborhood and a new school after living her whole life in the same place. In short, she must somehow make new friends and keep her old ones at the same time, or maybe choose which ones to let go. Romance enters the picture as well, so things get pretty engaging along the way.

As mentioned before, nothing is overly complex in terms of gameplay or story, so it’s highly unlikely that the story won’t make sense to you or anything of the sort. Choosing a partner for Haruna is pretty straightforward as well, and it’s always possible to go back and make different choices if you want to see how things would have turned out for her.

Lastly, the artwork is far from impressive, but the smudged colors and the simple design help a lot with the atmosphere, since everything feels cozy and welcoming for some reason. The character design is a bit disappointing, on the other hand, especially when it comes to proportions and facial expressions. It’s easy to get over these issues if you concentrate on the story, on the other hand.

Even if it has its fair share of flaws and it’s far from complete yet, Memory Remake is quite the enjoyable experience, especially if you lower your expectations a bit. It may help if you are going through a rough time as well.
