Melogalactic Demo
Avoid the obstacles and collect power-ups in this arcade sidescroller featuring retro graphics #Arcade game #Retro sidescroller #Space game #Galactic #Space #Galaxy
Although scientists have some divergent theories about how it all started and how it will end, everyone agrees that the universe is big. Not only that, but it is also easily observable and measurable, which is further proof that it would take us billions of years to get anywhere with our current technology. On the other hand, technology is a volatile field, so many things can change in the span of a few centuries.
Melogalactic is a vertical scroller in which you do not have to shoot anything, and nothing shoots at you either. Instead, you just have to avoid obstacles and make sure that you score enough points to be displayed in the hall of fame, if that’s your goal. The graphics are quite simple and unimpressive as well, although they are designed to look old school and maybe awake a few memories.
The main goal is to avoid the stars that keep coming toward you, sometimes in staggering numbers. These stars also like to move in patterns, which means that you can easily figure out how to avoid them and make sure that your ship stays out of their way. On the other hand, it is actually too easy to find the safe spot, so you’re left without a challenge at all.
Probably the most annoying thing in the game is the fact that the levels are strikingly similar and nothing ever happens in the background, which stays the same every stage. The star patterns are the only dynamic elements in the game, but even with that, it usually takes less than a minute to finish a level. Hence, it’s difficult to appreciate the experience as a whole when you never get to fight for victory.
Lastly, you at least get to enjoy a few monotonous music tracks as well, which are actually part of the gameplay mechanics too. The star patterns move and oscillate according to the track playing in the background, which is mighty interesting, yet disappointing when you get to actually see it. The visual quality is subpar in every aspect, and the retro label won’t cut it this time.
All things considered, Melogalactic has a long way to go before you can enjoy it. In fact, the game might even transform into something good along the way. However, it’s just too empty and repetitive to be worth it right now.
