The most important ingredient when it comes to multiplayer shooters is to provide the players with enough options and gameplay gimmicks to keep them playing for a long time. Thus, if they can find new things to do even after a few dozen hours of game time, the title maintains its fun factor for longer and constantly attracts new players.
The Medal of Honor franchise has a long history of good titles behind it, with some of the most intense multiplayer experiences in the entire genre. Pacific Assault remains true to the formula and throws you into a new theater of war, this time on the shores of Tarawa Atoll and various other locations scattered throughout Japan at the end of the second World War.
As always, the multiplayer mode features a selection of carefully designed maps, featuring a wide array of landscapes and environments, all of which require different tactics and approaches in order to come out victorious. Thus, from deep and disorienting jungles, to wide open fields, the game throws you into a variety of situations that put your every skill to the test and force you to change your play style to accommodate to the situation.
In order to bring a more realistic feeling to the gameplay, you are allowed to choose one of the the four available classes to play as, each one of which is vital in the overall composition of the team. Hence, you can take your pick from infantry, corpsman, engineer or ammo tech, as well as their respective counterparts from the Japanese side and use their particular set of skills to form a homogeneous team composition.
As far as the available game modes go, beside the overused deathmatch (called free-for-all in this case), team match and a round-based scenario, there is also the invader mode, which plays out slightly different than the rest of the options. As you might expect, this mode simulates and invasion and requires one side to attack and one to defend, by holding the position and stopping anyone who tries to advance.
In the end, Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault brings together the same beloved elements that made the series so popular among gamers, while also stepping into the twenty first century with the help of the new and improved graphic engine.
