Mechatroniks Attack Demo

It’s easy to dismiss platformers as casual games designed for inexperienced gamers, but the truth is that they can be more punishing that many triple-A productions, especially nowadays, when big studios are trying so hard to make their titles accessible to everyone. Pixel-perfect jumping and lightning-fast enemies can make you feel like a newcomer no matter how much of a gamer you are.

Mechatroniks Attack is a 2D platformer with shoot ‘em up elements, in which you play with a mechanized robot trying to survive in a universe full of dangerous enemies. The goal is to survive each level and make it to the end as quickly as possible, while shooting or avoiding every hostile along the way. It’s not a revolutionary idea, but it’s designed well enough to keep you on your toes.

To begin with, you play with a small robot that must fight other robots for survival. You can shoot lasers, jump, as well as use your tough body to reflect laser shots back to the enemies that shot them. Obviously, all of these skills must be used in unison for a better result, although you can also choose to make a run for it sometimes, at least as long as your path is not blocked.

There are all sorts of traps to watch out for as well, including some that kill you in the blink of an eye. Besides the classic pits that swallow you whole, there are also laser beams you have to roll through using your robot’s skill, and it’s important to do so at the right time to avoid incineration. Thankfully, enemies are easier to deal with, at least as long as they are not excessively fast.

The graphics are nothing write home about, as mentioned before, but they bring back memories of a simpler time. The controls are simple and straightforward as well, although it might take a while to get used to them. The keyboard and mouse combination is to blame for this, because things are much easier to deal with if you have a gamepad.

Even if it doesn’t bring anything new to the table, Mechatroniks Attack can still be a great way to practice your reflexes and work on your anger management. Thus, it’s certainly a challenge, but it depends on whether you are willing to undertake it.
