MechWarrior 4: Vengeance Demo

The MechWarrior series has made quite the name for itself, by providing the players with a sturdy gameplay, an exciting universe and plenty of interesting mechanics to keep them experimenting with different strategies. Hence, the fourth installment in the series aims to refine the product and include a few more original elements, while also making the experience slightly easier to enjoy for newcomers as well.

MechWarrior 4: Vengeance is a first-person shooter in which you get to control massive battle suits equipped with all sorts of powerful futuristic weapons, such as lasers, energy blasts and good old rockets. The universe in which the story takes place is a pretty distant one and it obviously involves wars and oppression, as well as rebellions and royal families that must fight tooth and nail in order to keep or win the throne.

You play as one of the heirs to the throne, in an attempt to liberate your home world and bring peace to the planet, using force in the process. In case you are not familiar with the series, the gameplay is basically centered around the fact that you control a massive mech suit instead of walking, which comes in handy during combat, thanks to its impressive arsenal and increased resistance to blasts that would otherwise kill a human.

Part of the fun is the fact that when you are not blasting huge robots using your own big robot, you get choose what weapons the suit is equipped with, as well as various other parts that can make a difference in battle. Ammunition and the armor plating can also be changed according to your preferences, although you also have to take into consideration the fact that you may not be as effective against certain types of enemies if you opt for a slightly different caliber.

Lasers, rocket launchers and many other weapons can be fitted onto your mech, which makes the experience that much more fun and exciting. The first-person perspective allows you to witness the destruction from the front seat and actively control everything about your suit, while also being responsible for the bad aim and missed shots. Thankfully, the mechanics have been refined over the years and it is very simple to just take advantage of your artillery during combat.

All things considered, maybe MechWarrior 4: Vengeance could have done a better job at respecting its roots and providing the fans with the same challenging experience, but that doesn't meant it is a bad game. Thus, in the end, all that matters is the fun you have on the battlefield and whether the plot sticks with you or not.
