Maze: Nightmare Realm

Although the human brain has been deciphered in many regards in the last few decades, there are still things that are not understood by scientists. Hence, it can happen that people go into comas and never wake up, or somehow open their eyes after years of lying on a hospital bed. Naturally, there are many supernatural beliefs still surrounding the phenomenon, as it’s always the case with things that do not yet have a clear and logical explanation.

Maze: Nightmare Realm is a hidden object adventure game in which you get to visit other realities and battle nightmarish visions in an effort to rescue your nephew Timmy from a deep sleep. Even if the gameplay mechanics are not particularly original or innovative, the mature content is fairly unusual for the genre, especially since you can stumble upon some disturbing imagery along the way.

As mentioned before, the whole plot revolves around Timmy, a young boy who is not able to wake up from a coma or a deep sleep of some kind. You decide to enter his dream world using a weird apparatus, only to find out that Timmy is trapped in a twisted reality where all sorts of nasty creatures roam free. Hence, the goal is to survive the journey and help your nephew wake up.

Since most of the gameplay mechanics are classic for the genre, the fans should find their way around the interface and the puzzles quite quickly. Thus, most of your activity includes examining the scenes for clues, as well as looking for objects that might come in handy. The actual puzzles are nothing out of the ordinary either, but every now and again you might come across a riddle that boggles your mind.

Lastly, it’s a tradition for HOPA games to feature gorgeous graphics, and Maze: Nightmare Realm is no different. Every scene is incredibly detailed and drawn by hand, so the atmosphere is quite mesmerizing along the way. The same amount of work can be observed in terms of sound effects as well, and the voice acting is convincing enough too.

Maze: Nightmare Realm is a tad scarier and more explicit than your typical adventure game, but the whole thing is very well-executed. Hence, it certainly deserves a shot, even if you might end up with a nightmare or two.
