A turn-based strategy game in which you get to conquer planets and use spaceships to defeat your enemies #Turn-based strategy #Space strategy #Conquest game #Mayhem #Intergalactic #Turn-based
Addictive video game mechanics are not very difficult to come up with, but they need to be integrated wisely and provide the players with a purpose on the long run, otherwise they quickly lose interest. MMOs and simple mobile games have figured this out aeons ago, but there are many other examples that withstood the test of time and gathered a large fan base over the years.
Mayhem Intergalactic took simplicity to a whole other level, on the other hand, by making everything as easy as possible. However, this also hurts the overall experience, since you do not have too many options to play around with and the gameplay becomes boring after a few matches, given the fact that the winning formula can be figured out very quickly.
Hence, you start with a planet and a few spaceships at your disposal and you must conquer the nearby planets, by destroying the ships that guard them and establishing new factories on them. Obviously, this is all done automatically, so you just have to click on the desired planet and see whether your forces are strong enough to defeat the native population, or the opposing player, depending on who inhabits the said world.
The only other mechanic that you must keep an eye on is the factory upgrade option, since you can only do it once per turn and on a single planet. Every planet produces a certain number of ships every turn, which is directly proportional to the factory level on the said planet. However, this gimmick is obviously very simple and straightforward, since it doesn’t require a lot of thinking, nor can you strategically use it in a radical way to achieve your plans.
As far as the technical aspect is concerned, the graphics are subpar and not very impressive, but that’s not the point in a TBS of this kind anyway. It looks and moves very smoothly, on the other hand, which is always good news, especially considering the low system requirements. The user interface is very intuitive and simple, although that is also because there are so few tools to make use of.
All things considered, Mayhem Intergalactic is not the type of game that will be remembered a few months after its release, but it can provide you with a few hours of fun gameplay. The lack of strategic options and gameplay mechanics of any kind is truly hurtful, which is why you won’t feel the need to go back for a second session.
