Investigate the king's disappearance in this engaging visual novel sporting nice artwork #Visual novel #Role-playing game #Mystery game #Fantasy #Novel #Role-play
Being part of a royal family is not always a sweet deal, even if you basically have everything you want or need from the moment you are born until you die. Sometimes responsibilities and rules make life tougher than it would be for a normal person. Naturally, it depends on who you ask whether these inconveniences are worth the trouble for the rest of the rewards.
Mark of Lost Royalty is part mystery game and part visual novel, and it presents you with a pretty interesting tale regarding a royal family and a weird world governed by different rules. However, complexity is not a good term to use in regards to the gameplay, because everything is as simple as in every other visual novel out there, which means that you just have to click through the dialog.
In short, you play as a character with blue blood running through her veins, and she is called Lucetta. However, you have the option to change her name at the beginning of the story, so at least that is left up to you. Everything else revolves around the disappearance of the king and the murder of the queen, and it’s Lucetta’s mission to investigate these events and maybe find a culprit.
All sorts of plot twists await you along the way, but there are simple explanations to each one of them, so don’t expect to be blown away by the quality of the story. Even so, the writing is good enough to get your imagination going, especially if you enjoy a nice fantasy tale that may also involve a bit of romance every now and again. There are a few choices to make as well, at least in the full version that’s being planned.
Lastly, the artwork is important in a visual novel, because not much else is happening on the screen at any given time. The drawings are not bad when it comes to Mark of Lost Royalty, but it must be mentioned that the backgrounds are a bit dull and flat sometimes. The characters seem out of place every now and again too, but you can ignore all this if you concentrate on the story.
In the end, Mark of Lost Royalty may not be much of a looker, but it can certainly keep you engaged for a while as the story unfolds. Thus, it would be nice to see more content in the future and a longer story.
