Temples were very important for societies back in the day, especially when you consider how much work went into building them. In fact, some of the most famous architectural wonders from ancient civilizations were temples dedicated to various gods, so people were definitely trying their best in that regard. Hence, it would be nice to witness the construction of such a temple if it were possible.

Mahjong Masters: Temple of the Ten Gods is a mahjong game that provides you with a multitude of puzzles and the chance to see what it takes to build a temple. The mechanics are nothing out of the ordinary for a mahjong title, but the adventure has a charm of its own if you give it a chance. Unfortunately, the graphics and the interface look a bit dated for this day and age.

To begin with, all the boards seem to be available from the moment you enter the game, and they all reward you with a certain amount of resources if you manage to complete them. The ultimate goal of each level is to get to the golden tiles that are usually hidden underneath all the other pieces, so there’s no way to collect them until you solve the rest of the mahjong puzzle first.

The resources you earn are pooled into your treasury, and once you get enough of them you can start building parts of the temple. You do not have to build all of it at once, so it’s much easier to take it piece-by-piece. Don’t expect to be blown away by this part of the game, since it pretty much resumes to completing levels and clicking on a building button once you have enough resources.

As far as the graphics are concerned, they are far from impressive as well, given the fact that the images come in low-resolution and everything looks at least a decade old at this point. You can ignore this fact if you concentrate on the puzzles, but every now and again the pixelated interface might get on your nerves. Even so, at least the mahjong is enjoyable enough if you are a fan of the genre.

Even if you can have a bit of fun solving the puzzles, Mahjong Masters: Temple of the Ten Gods still feels like it does not belong in today’s market.
