Although they are not the fastest bikes out there, motocross rides can deliver quite the significant amount of power, not to mention the fact that they must be resilient and capable of taking a hit or two almost every race. On the other hand, the riders require a lot of experience in order to know how tackle each type of terrain, as well as make sure that the bike can withstand the stress out on the track.
MX Simulator is a racing game designed to provide you with a realistic depiction of motocross tournaments, where you can test your off-road racing skills and try to keep the motorbikes under control. Speed is important, but you must also handle the vehicle with care, because the off-road terrain can quickly turn on you and there isn’t much you can do once inertia and gravity start their dance.
You can compete in a variety of game modes, starting from the usual circuit races on closed tracks, all the way to time trial competition, which dare you to squeeze the shortest time and push your bike to the limit. Multiplayer is included in the package as well, which means that you can compete against players from all over the world once you confident in your skills and the A.I. is not enough anymore.
In case you are not satisfied with your bike’s performance out on the track, the game allows you to manually set it up, by adjusting the shocks, the suspension, and a variety of other components that affect the way it responds to the environment. However, you really need to know what you are doing, because otherwise you risk making the bike worse and incredibly difficult to handle.
The game leans hard toward realism, because it can be quite the pain to control the motorbike, especially at higher speeds. You must make use of both the front and the back brake in turns, depending on the situation, while the clutch can come in handy when you need to manually change gears. On the other hand, there is also the option to turn the arcade mode on and not worry about realism so much, although that is entirely up to you.
MX Simulator somehow feels unfinished for some reason, especially when it comes to content. The animation displayed when you fall of the bike is laughable and repetitive, while the tracks lack detail and they quickly fade out of memory. In fact, everything seems to look like a movie set full of cheap props, because the bikes are the only thing working as they should in the game.
