Mysteries are great when it comes to keeping an audience engaged and immersed, regardless of whether it’s a movie, a book or a video game. However, video game allows you to actively pursue the mysteries in question, which makes them even more exciting. Having multiple options at your disposal and even multiple endings creates a much more immersive experience.
MMM: Murder Most Misfortunate is an interesting visual novel that puts you in the role of an anti-heroine trying to prove that she did not commit a gruesome murder. The mystery is not very deep, but it’s engaging enough to distract you for a while. There are multiple routes you can pick, as well as multiple endings you can reach depending on your choices along the way.
The main character’s name is Miss Fortune, and she is a pretty evil girl in her day-to-day life. In fact, she has been widowed about nine times, which is why everyone is quite suspicious around here. However, this last murder is definitely not of her doing, but she must prove it by solving the mystery before everyone starts pointing their fingers at her.
Finding a murderer is pretty straightforward in the game at hand, since all you have to do is look around the mansion for obvious clues and talk to everyone. There are a couple of misunderstandings along the way and quite a few funny moments, but it doesn’t take long to pinpoint a few suspects. However, the multiple endings allow you to see what happens if you are not particularly interested in finding the real culprit.
As far as the graphics are concerned, the artwork is quite nice, especially when it comes to the characters and their different poses or facial expressions. Some of the environments are actually animated, which is a nice touch, because it makes the action less static and boring. The music is not bad either, but don’t expect anything too memorable either, unfortunately.
MMM: Murder Most Misfortunate is definitely better than many visual novels out there, primarily because it’s a lot more interactive and suspenseful. Thus, it’s exciting to see how many different routes you can take and who’s waiting for you at the end of the mystery.
