Lost Planet: Extreme Condition DX9 Demo
A third-person shooter that takes place on a frozen planet infested with aliens and pirates #Action game #Extreme Condition #Alien planet #Planet #Lost #Demo
Space may be full of stars and many other wonderful places, but that does not necessarily mean it is safe, nor welcoming. In fact, most of the science fiction movies or video games that choose to portray humankind's encounter with extraterrestrial life almost always choose to depict the aliens as vicious killing machines that would like nothing more than to exterminate us.
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is a fast-paced third-person shooter that offers more or less the same take on the situation, although the background story is a bit more complicated and it also involves the dark side of people, for a change. However, the action takes place in space and the aliens are definitely not welcoming, considering the fact that they would much rather feast on humans that greet them on their planet.
The plot revolves a colony of humans who are attempting find a suitable new home for the race to live on, since Earth is not too habitable anymore. When a viable candidate is found, people immediately start colonizing the planet and trying to turn the environment into something more cozy, considering the fact that this new planet is going through a fierce glacial age and everything is rather frozen and covered in snow. However, all the commotion attracts the attention of the resident alien race, which are basically huge insects without too much empathy for those who are looking for shelter.
In essence, the game is a third-person shooter, although the view can be quickly changed to a first-person perspective with a simple click, which can come in handy. The action is very arcade-like and realism is pretty much out of the question, especially when it comes to the hitpoint bar system, which allows you to collect a strange thermal liquid and basically be able to take on any kind of damage, as long as you have enough of the magic elixir in your tank.
The enemies are not too smart either, although you do meet some human pirates as well along the way, which sort of try to be a little more intelligent. The aliens, however, follow the same repetitive script every time, which makes it easy to predict their behavior and take advantage of their weaknesses. Coupled with the fact that you can find all kinds of powerful weapons spread across the environment, the difficulty level is certainly something you should not worry about.
Other than the fact that graphics are pretty detailed and they employ a wide range of good-looking special effects, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition can be a little to linear and repetitive to be worth an entire playthrough. Despite that, you can still have a few hours of fun with it, especially if you do not mind the silly arcade mechanics.
