Being a hero is an important part of video games, because almost all of them put you in the role of a man or a woman who must save the world on their own. Granted, it’s usually because your alter-ego has some sort of special ability that allows him/her to overcome otherwise impossible odds. Even so, it’s difficult to enjoy multiple playthroughs of the same adventure, even if you change character specializations.
Little Legacy is a top-down role-playing game that takes place in a randomly-generated world, complete with endless forests, villages and ocean shores. You are free to roam the whole world from the first few seconds of gameplay, but since it’s practically immense, you’ll probably manage to explore only a fraction of it over the course of your character’s evolution.
The developers advertise a fairly big game world, so big in fact that you wouldn’t be able to go from one edge to the other no matter how hard you try. Granted, the environment is a bit repetitive and unimpressive most of the time, given the fact that it appears to be an endless forest with barely any variety. However, you can also stumble onto villages, which are populated by NPCs.
As you might expect, Little Legacy’s greatest feat is the freedom it provides you with, because you can also craft items, learn magic and even build your own house. Each time you start a game with a new character, the world is randomly generated as well, which means that the lore is different too. In essence, it should be easy to restart the adventure every once in awhile.
The graphics are colorful and quite silly when it comes to how the characters are designed, but the overall mood is pretty engaging, especially since the world is full of plants and it truly feels like wilderness. Granted, it can get repetitive after a while, but then again there are plenty of ways to keep yourself busy, including crafting, questing and exploring.
In the end, Little Legacy is definitely on the right track, but at the moment it’s a bit too repetitive to be enjoyable over long periods of time. Hence, with enough work and dedication, the development team can improve the game a lot until the full version is released. In fact, you can support them by backing their Kickstarter campaign.
