Legends of Time Demo

Sometimes it's good to go back to the roots and revive a trend that has come and gone years ago, because many might feel nostalgia’s push and give it a try just to relive some old memories. This happens to be the case with many video game subgenres nowadays, because technology has made some of them obsolete. Third-person hack & slash flicks are nowhere near as popular as two decades ago, as an example.

Legends of Time is a hack & slash in which you have to slay enemy after enemy and work together with your friends to survive for as long as you can. It’s not a complex formula, but then again it doesn’t need to be in order to provide you with a few hours of fun. Granted, the game is certainly not done yet, so there are still many missing elements, but things are looking up.

To begin with, there are multiple characters to choose from, each one of which has different styles when it comes to combat. Some are slower and stronger, while others are more agile and swift. You can choose them at the beginning of the adventure and play with them in order to unlock better gear along the way, but the whole point appears to be couch multiplayer, at least judging from the description.

As for the actual combat, there’s not much you need to do when it comes to macro keys or anything like that. In fact, you can click your way out of every encounter, even if some characters require a different approach. Thus, the one with the shield can also block incoming attacks, but it’s not very effective as of now, so it’s a lot easier to just click until everything is dead.

The focus on multiplayer should be interesting, but there’s a long way to go until that becomes reality. There’s no real content at the moment either, so it’s difficult to say how everything is going to look and feel in the end. However, the graphics are certainly nice, and the controls are smooth enough not to hinder your ability to attack and dodge incoming hits.

Despite the lack of content, Legends of Time shows promise, especially if the developers keep adding things along the way and maybe expanding the story in the single player mode. Hence, you can support them by voting for the game on Steam Greenlight.
