Zombie games are quite popular nowadays, especially when it comes to the survival genre and first-person shooters. It doesn’t take much to come up with a decent plot, which is why everyone is trying to get their own piece of the market while there’s still interest. On the other hand, you still need a bit of work in order to create something worth playing.

Last Days is a top-down role-playing game with survival elements, in which your goal is to make it to the end and see as much of the world as possible. Granted, the game is pretty simple from almost every point of view, but that doesn’t mean you cannot have fun with it. In fact, the whole setting can be quite atmospheric if you give it a chance.

The story revolves around a zombie apocalypse that turned the world into a hostile wasteland full of danger and despair. You play the role of a man trying to survive the whole ordeal, although there’s not that much emphasis on the plot. Even if the game world is rather empty and featureless, you can imagine the atmosphere and maybe even create some memories.

The gameplay is about as basic as it can get under the circumstances, although it can still pose some difficulties in certain situations. Most of your time is spent exploring the open world, accepting missions and interacting with other characters, which is nice. You can also scavenge for resources and rare items, such as guns or materials to ease your survival.

Since the game is designed in RPG Maker, the graphics are nothing to write home about, even if they are not inherently bad. Thus, the top-down perspective can be quite nice in certain situations, although the textures are not very great, unfortunately. The same goes for the soundtrack, which is a bit repetitive and not always in tune with what’s happening in the story.

In the end, Last Days is neither original nor exciting, which is not what you want to hear about a zombie survival game. On the other hand, it can be the perfect distraction on a quiet afternoon when there’s nothing better to do.
