Land of Traps Demo

Platformers are designed to be challenging and replayable, even if they are simple in certain regards. As long as players keep trying to score more points and obtain better times, on the other hand, it really doesn’t matter how basic the games are. Obviously, not every platformer is worth the bother, since it usually takes more than mindless jumping to keep players engaged.

Land of Traps is a 3D platformer in which your goal is to get to the end of the level as quickly as possible, while avoiding all sorts of traps along the way. Although the gameplay is fairly basic and straightforward, the actual experience can be quite addictive, especially if you enjoy a challenge. On the other hand, there’s not much of a story to follow right now, and the characters are not very well defined either.

There are two characters to choose from: Kimba and Kyara. Since you can only jump and sprint, the differences between characters are mostly cosmetic, but it can be enough to improve the experience. In short, the two furry creatures must save the universe from a great evil, as well as defeat a few bad guys along the way. Still, the environment is your biggest enemy.

Besides traps, you can also stumble into a variety of glowing items that can be collected. These count toward your final score, and they can help you get a better spot on the leaderboard. However, every part of the environment is designed to be as challenging as possible, which includes moving platforms, spikes, cannons and a variety of other dangers.

Given the fact that the genre requires very accurate controls and precise input, Land of Traps couldn’t drop the ball in this regard either. Thankfully, everything is more or less as responsive as it needs to be, with a few minor exceptions. The jump animation seems a bit delayed, although it really depends on how good your reflexes are. The graphics are decent as well, even if they look a bit choppy and flat.

All things considered, Land of Traps is definitely a game to keep an eye on, especially since it is still pretty early in the development stage. Hence, it could get a lot better until the final version is released, and you also have the possibility to see it evolve.
