Kroc and Roll Demo

Sometimes, all a good platformer needs is to be challenging and feature colorful graphics, in order to help you escape the day-to-day routine. On the other hand, there are many things that can go wrong along the way, some of which are liable to cause more stress and trouble than they are worth. Hence, people can usually tell whether a game is good or not from the very first few minutes.

Kroc and Roll is easy to categorize as well, because everyone can see that it is way too unpolished to be considered a professional attempt at the genre. Starting from the awful and unresponsive controls, all the way to the lack of guidance, repetitive gameplay, and weak animations, everything seems to be only half-way done, which is why it can be pretty difficult to keep playing for more than ten minutes.

As far as the general theme and the background story are concerned, you play the role of a rock & roll crocodile that must scour the Louisiana swamps in search of his band mates. Naturally, the way is riddled with traps and dangerous creatures, all of which try to stop him from reaching his goals. However, you can use your guitar to neutralize the threats, by playing tunes toward them.

To reiterate, the game suffers from a variety of flaws when it comes to the actual gameplay and the mechanics that govern it. Hence, you might have a lot of trouble figuring out how to move around properly, since it is not really explained. Even if you do manage to get everything right, the camera is way worse, because it sometimes doesn’t allow you to see the way forward and it can make you miss some jumps.

Speaking of which, there are some excruciating levels that require multiple tries, or at least an indecent amount of luck. As an example, there’s a boat level you must pass, which doesn’t allow you to break or turn the boat around. Hence, if you go the wrong way, you must restart the entire level and try again. Naturally, the environment is too dark and the boat moves too fast to really see what’s going on, so you need to replay the level until you know exactly what moves to make, so the fun is definitely out the window.

All things considered, Kroc and Roll is a disappointment from start to finish, because there’s nothing in it to make you relax, have a good time, or enjoy the challenge of a difficult level. Instead, you’ll be greeted by constant frustration, bad level design, awful music, and unbearable control problems.
