Puzzle games can get the drop on you when you expect it the least, because they have a way of catching you under their spell. Hence, regardless of how simple the actual game might look like, the challenge of solving the puzzles keeps you glued to the screen until you realize that a few hours have passed. Naturally, if the experience is pleasant, no one considers it lost time.
Domino Solitaire gives its secret away right in the name, but that doesn’t make it any less fun to play and enjoy. Thus, the game is basically a curious mix of Domino and Solitaire rules, which should result in quite the riddles to increase your blood pressure levels. There are multiple modes to try out as well, in case you give up trying to solve a particular puzzle.
One of the modes challenges you to find all the correct domino pieces and choose the right combinations in order to integrate every piece on the board. The other mode is far closer to what Solitaire plays like, because you get a certain number of domino stacks and you must arrange them in a particular order. Both of these modes are timed, although there is no actual time limit to fear.
To help you along, the game provides you with a few tips to get you started, as well as the ability to consult the rules whenever you feel like you’re not exactly sure about what you should be doing. A few other helpful tools are included too, such as the possibility to undo your moves, or quickly shuffle the pieces and start a new round from the top.
From a technical point of view, the game is obviously not a marvel of engineering, but it certainly looks clean and smooth. As such, the pieces are nicely modeled and the basic animations that are part of the graphics go along well with the rest of the mood. Speaking of which, a calming soundtrack plays in the background, but it quickly gets repetitive if you let it on.
In the end, Domino Solitaire may be challenging, but it is by no means stressful. You are always free to think about a possible solution for as long as you want. However, it’s always nice to keep track of your completion times, to see whether you’re getting better at it.
