Navigate treacherous levels and avoid the traps in this interesting platformer with nice graphics #Puzzle platformer #Adventure game #Puzzle game #Platformer #Puzzle #Adventure
Although it’s difficult to innovate something as old and as popular as the platformer genre, people are always on the lookout for a new adventure, mainly because it doesn’t really matter how original the mechanics are as long as they are fun. The controls are important as well, because few things are more annoying than input lag or annoying key bindings.
Koloro is a 2D platformer that challenges you to overcome a variety of obstacles and make your way to the end of each level without dying. The trick is to make full use of your imaginary companion, as well as to jump as precisely as possible whenever you have to. Your main enemies are the spikes, which kill with a single touch and are spread all over the place.
The story puts you in the role of a girl by the name of Kora, who goes on a journey to find her missing sister. She has a mysterious imaginary friend as well, who helps her change shape in order to navigate the intricate levels. However, the most important gameplay feat is the fact that once you start moving you cannot stop or change direction unless you hit a wall.
Jumping is the only way to control your character, and it needs to be used as precisely as possible. Whenever you hit a wall or some kind of immovable obstacle, it’s possible to perform a wall jump and turn around, which comes in handy whenever you need to go back. There are many switches and buttons to press as well, so the levels get fairly complex after a while.
On the other hand, the graphics are very enjoyable and friendly, even if black makes up a big portion of the environment. The level design is unique for each stage, not to mention the fact that the world itself is quite engaging. As for the soundtrack, there’s certainly nothing wrong with it, but it seems like it doesn’t go along with the mood very well most of the time.
In the end, Koloro is certainly going to have some kind of success, but it depends on its final quality when it comes to how the public is going to receive it. However, you can support it by voting for the game on Steam Greenlight.
